The optical transceiver is compliant withthe Small Form- Factor Pluggable (SFP) Multi-Source
Agreement(MSA). It is designedto transmit opticalserialdigitalsignalsasdefinedin SMPTE297-
2006.TheFTCS-3G-SDIA-X is specifically designedfor robust performancein the presenceofSDI
pathological patterns for SMPTE 259M, SMPTE 292M and SMPTE 424M serial
Transmitter TransmitterSection:
Transmitteris designedforsinglemodefiberandoperatesatanominalwavelengthof1310nm.The
transmitter moduleusesaMQWFPlaser diodeandfull IEC825 andCDRHclass1eyesafety.The
outputpowercanbedisabledviathesingleTxDispin.LogicLVTTLHIGHlevel disablesthe
transmitter.ItcontainsAPCfunction, temperaturecompensationcircuit,PECLdatainputs, LVTTL
Txdisinput andTxfault Outputinterface.
ReceiverSection:
Thereceiversectionusesahermeticpackagedfront endreceiver(InGaAsPINandpreamplifier).
Thepostamplifieris ACcoupledtopreamplifierthroughacapacitorandalow passfilter. The
capacitorandLPFareenoughtopassthesignalfrom5Mb/sto155Mb/swithoutsignificantdistortion
orperformancepenalty.TheLPFlimits thepreamplifierbandwidthtoimprove receiversensitivity.As
theinput opticalis decreased,LOSwillswitchfromlow tohigh.Astheinput opticalpoweris
increased fromverylow levels, LOSwillswitchbackfromhightolow.
EEPROMSection:
TheopticaltransceivercontainsanEEPROM.Itprovidesaccesstosophisticatedidentification
information thatdescribesthetransceiver’scapabilities,standardinterfaces, manufacturer,and
otherinformation Theserialinterface usesthe2-wireserialCMOSEEPROMprotocoldefinedforthe
ATMELAT24C01A/02/04family ofcomponents.Whentheserialprotocolis activated,thehost
generatestheserialclocksignal(SCL,ModDef1).Thepositiveedgeclocksdatainto those
segmentsoftheEEPROMthatarenotwriteprotectedwithintheSFPtransceiver.Thenegativeedge
clocksdatafromtheSFPtransceiver.Theserialdatasignal(SDA,ModDef2)is bi-directionalfor
serialdatatransfer.ThehostusesSDAin conjunctionwithSCLtomarkthestartandendofserial
protocolactivation.Thememoriesareorganizedasaseriesof8-bitdatawordsthatcanbe
addressedindividually orsequentially.
